  • In this program, students will receive one-to-one, face-to-face tuition from experts in their chosen subject or subjects. They will work towards the specific exams being sat, with a healthy mix of real world, hands on, exam technique included. We do this by using mock questions, past papers and our own tailor-made mock papers, which prepare students both in terms of subject expertise and exam technique. We want sitting the real exams to come as second nature for students, and we do this by providing them with both the confidence in their course materials, and confidence in how to approach their exam questions to obtain the best marks possible.

We are here to ensure that your child reaches their full potential across these exams, whether there is one particular problem subject or module, or you’d like to ensure they are going above and beyond the curriculum, enabling them to challenge for top grades by being 100% exam-ready when it comes to the end of year 11.

Everything we do will be geared towards the specific subjects and exam boards your child is sitting exams for, and a crucial part in what we do involves ample exposure to real world, tailor-made mock exam questions and papers. In this way our tutors don’t just provide the knowledge, they ensure the exams themselves are second nature.

  • In the mentorship program, we take things a step further! This program is unique to us and we believe it offers the absoloute best experience for A Level students looking to progress and study their preferred course at their number one university choice. Students can expect all of the same effective subject tuition, but with the added benefit of being paired with a current university undergraduate or recent graduate in the subject they wish to pursue at university. Over the course of the mentorship program, students will be able to go above and beyond their A Level course materials, debating topics in a way that will make the transition into university lectures and tutorials seamless. They will also go into university interviews fully prepared and able to discuss their subjects, with expert coaching and practical experience of having had university-level conversations. On top of all of this, your mentor will be able to offer invaluable guidance with university and UCAS applications, all from someone who has been through the whole process themselves very recently.

Frequently asked questions

  • All of the tutors that we work with are based locally in and around Reading. We interview all tutors face-to-face, and carry out detailed reference and qualification checks, as well as ensuring they have up to date enhanced DBS checks. Our team includes tutors from a mix of backgrounds, with different personalities, interests and areas of expertise. In terms of experience, our tutors range from experienced teachers with 20 or more years of in-school experience, to recent Masters and Phd graduates with a wealth of recent subject-specific and exam preparation experience.

  • Your child's first session with Brainbox Learning will always be with our senior tutor responsible for his or her age group. This allows us to do two things. Firstly, it gives you as parents or carers an opportunity to discuss any preferences regarding your child's tuition in greater detail, asking any questions you may have at the same time. Secondly, over the course of this first session, our senior age-group tutor will be able to assess your son or daughter, in terms of areas of strength and weakness and learning styles, and will be able to determine the most appropriate tutor for you going forward. Interests and personality of both student and tutor are also taken into account. After this assessment session, we will be in touch to introduce your tutor. Of course you are then free to request a change at any time, however as of June 2024, we are proud to say that this has yet to happen!

  • Tuition is available throughout the day. We have tutors operating between 9AM and 9PM, 7 days per week.

  • Tuition takes place face-to-face, in your home. Our tutors are also happy to meet in other locations, such as coffee shops, however a responsible adult would still need to be present. We also offer online tuition where requested, but we always recommend face-to-face sessions where possible.

  • Our rates start at £28.50 per hour. You can access our price list here. Invoices will be sent by email on a weekly or monthly basis, and can be paid by debit or credit card, Apple Pay or bank transfer.

  • As corporate members of The Tutors' Association, we adhere to strict safeguarding procedures. All sessions are also fully insured. We interview all of our tutors and teachers face-to-face, as well as meticulously checking references and qualifications, and ensuring that all tutors have up to date, valid enhanced DBS checks.

  • Yes! We are based in Reading, including all tutors and staff. This gives us a great level of knowledge when it comes to local schools and local exams. You can also check out our local community and charity page here.

Our unique approach gets results. We get to know every student individually, and this allows us to tailor everything we do to their specific needs, rather than following a predefined program. By mixing our work between focusing on problem areas, the school syllabus, and regular exposure to real world mock exam questions, we ensure every student is learning the right things, in a way that will easily translate to exam success.
